How do I know if my backup is working?

When your computer is idle, Carbonite automatically backs up new and changed files. You don't have to do anything! When you're using your computer, Carbonite goes to sleep so it will never slow down your computer or Internet connection.
How many different versions of a file will be backed up (as the client changes a document over time)?
Client licenses are provided by Information Technology for one ACU owned computer for each faculty/staff employee.

Carbonite installs a small software program on your computer that works quietly in the background looking for new and changed files to back up. It looks and feels like part of your computer, and is integrated with your desktop, so there's nothing new to learn.

When you first install Carbonite you are given two options for backup:

Windows Users: There are three ways to determine the status of files in your backup:All files that are backed up (or selected for backup) are marked with colored dots. Green means the file is backed up; yellow means the file is queued for backup. Double click on the "Carbonite Backup Drive" icon on your desktop, or open the drive from your "My Computer" directory. If you are unable to see the Lock icon, In the Carbonite Preference Pane, select the Show Carbonite Status icon in menu bar option. If it is already selected, de select and re select it.
Will clients be able (and allowed) to perform their own backups and restores?

Carbonite takes data privacy and security very seriously. Carbonite encrypts your files twice before backing them up securely off site, using the same encryption techniques that banks use. Files remain encrypted at Carbonite's secure data centers, so only you can see them.
Carbonite Nike Coat Black And White keeps old versions of your files for up to three months. The Windows client keeps one version of the file for each day of the past week, one version for each of the previous three weeks, and one version for each of the previous two months that the file has been backed up. The Mac version does not yet support versioning.

With Carbonite, restoring files is quick and easy. If you accidentally delete or otherwise lose some of your files, just a few clicks from your desktop to get them back. If you lost all your files because your computer is damaged, stolen, or "just dies," you can easily restore them to a new computer. You'll have the option of applying your subscription to any of the computers on your Carbonite account. We also support, for an additional expense, external hard drives and software used for backups. For Windows machines we support the use of Genie Timeline ($40) and Windows 7 Backup and Restore (free with Windows 7). For Apple machines we support Apple Time Machine (free). If you have any information that is covered under HIPPA, you should use an external hard drive. You don't have to do anything! When your computer is in use, Carbonite goes to sleep so it will never slow down your computer or Internet connection.
